THE GREEN
COMMITMENT
The Green Commitment is a document of shared intent. It reflects our university community’s dedication to embedding sustainability into daily practices, whether in academics, operations, or student initiatives. While not a binding contract, it serves as a guiding framework for how we can work together towards a more sustainable university, across the various UvA bodies, facilities, and broader Amsterdam area.
Why is it important?
Through updating the Commitment, we can ensure it remains relevant, inspiring, and actionable for everyone. Between 2023 and 2025, the University of Amsterdam fell in ranking from 4th to 14th in the Netherlands’ national sustainability ranking (as per the Sustainabul report https://sustainabul.com/). It is crucial, at this time, that sustainability is at the forefront of day-to-day university life.
