The UvA Green Office is a student-led platform and is part of greater network of organizations that works in sustainability at the university. Our platform holds a special role in bridging the student body into this network. Through our Ambassador program we aim to further promote and incentivize sustainability across the UvA.

You have the exciting opportunity to be a part of our vibrant community as a Sustainability Ambassador in your faculty. The description of the position can be found below, please read the information thoroughly.

What is a Sustainability Ambassador?

Sustainability Ambassadors act as extensions of the Green Office in different faculties of the university, keeping the Office notified of different sustainability projects and initiatives within their respective faculties as well as bridging the gap between the Green Office and the student body.

As a Sustainability Ambassador, you will be in touch with what is going on in your faculty sustainability-wise, oversee and contribute to sustainability initiatives relating to your field, keep track of what is going well and what can be improved upon. You can organise events, lectures, workshops, symposia and more, engaging the student body in your faculty. Additionally, you will be in close contact with the students to answer any questions or help with project ideas and initiatives students may have.

In short, you will be the representative branch of the Green Office in your faculty, enabling us to establish an interdisciplinary perspective and present a more holistic approach to sustainability in the university.

Expected Qualities

• You are proactive and eager to take initiative

• You have excellent cooperation and communication skills

• You are organized and can keep up with a determined monthly schedule

• You are passionate and informed about sustainability and related topics

• You have excellent time management skills and a strong sense of responsibility

• You have experience and skill in networking

• Speaking Dutch is a plus, but not required

• You have preferably spent more than one year at the University of Amsterdam, but this is not a must

As a sustainability ambassador, you will be responsible for:

• Being informed about sustainability progress and initiatives of their faculties for example waste management, AI usage etc. and further faculty-specific sustainability projects

• Aid students concerning their questions and interests relating to sustainability

• Guide students seeking to launch their own sustainability-related initiatives

• Oversee sustainability-based courses in their faculty and contribute to the Sustainability Course Catalogue

• Host faculty-wide events to engage students further into the field of sustainability

• Take action and initiative in matters informed by critical sustainability

• Report back to the Green Office Core Team on a monthly basis concerning the progress on the aforementioned responsibilities.
