The UvA Green Office is a student-led platform and is part of greater network of organizations that works in sustainability at the university. Our platform holds a special role in bridging the student body into this network. Through our Ambassador program we aim to further promote and incentivize sustainability across the UvA.
You have the exciting opportunity to be a part of our vibrant community as a Sustainability Ambassador in your faculty. The description of the position can be found below, please read the information thoroughly.
What is a Sustainability Ambassador?
Ambassadors serve as an extension of the Green Office in different campuses of the university. Ambassadors keep the office notified of different sustainability projects, initiatives, and organisations on their campus and bridge the gap between the Green Office and the student body. By keeping track of and contributing to sustainability actions in their field, the Ambassadors help create an interdisciplinary community at the UvA.
Sustainability Ambassador Projects for 2026/27
We aim to achieve the above-described goals through various project this year. While some are described below, some will be created with the Sustainability Ambassadors and their ideas.
1) Sustainable Course Manual Brochure
By publishing a bi-yearly Sustainable Course Manual Brochure, the GO aims to inform students of existing sustainability courses in the UvA available for registration in that period. This will help to create an interconnected and vibrant UvA community around sustainability.
2) Campus Mapping
The Ambassadors will compile their knowledge of various sustainable initiative, project, and organisation in the end-of-year report, which consists of quarterly reports, describing different activities that display the efforts of interdisciplinarity of each campus. Thus, the Sustainability Ambassadors programme expands the reach and knowledge of the GO and encourages more students to engage in its activities and initiatives.
Further responsibilities of a Sustainability Ambassador include:
- Staying informed on sustainability progress and initiatives of their campus
- Aid students concerning their questions and interest in sustainability
- Maintain relationship with the Faculty Student Council, study associations, and student association in matters informed by sustainability
Sustainable Ambassador Expectations and Required Skills
While the time dedicated to the role will fluctuate throughout the year, it is expected to take up approximately 5 hours per week.
An ideal candidate:
- Is interested in community building and networking
- Takes initiative
- Has a strong sense of responsibility
- Has strong communication and cooperation skills
- Is organised and manages time well
- Is passionate and informed about sustainability topics
Experience in event planning and Dutch skills are considered a plus but not a requirement.
