Introduction Borrel

On the 20th of September we had the utmost pleasure of welcoming you to our very first event as the new board of the Green Office! The Introduction Borrel helped us kick-start the new Green Office season and also to get to know all of you. Thank you for coming to out event and we hoped you enjoyed it! :)

Many thanks to Bar Bario for allowing us to utilize their beautiful facilities to host our event!

"Systems Thinking for Our Future" Lecture

On the 19th of September the Green Office helped organize a special lecture by Arthur Keller and Max Keijzer. The event took place at Spui 25 and focused on the differences between multidisciplinarity and systemics. Arthur Keller, a specialist on systemic risks and strategies toward collective resilience, discussed why many of the options we see as "solutions" will actually not solve anything.

Sustainability Day

On the 10th of October, the Green Office celebrated Sustainability Day. The core team members prepared stands at various campuses of the UvA like Roeterseiland Campus, Oudemanhuispoort, and Science Park. To make things interactive, we created banners that prompted the questions "What is your vision for a sustainable future?" and "Does sustainability contribute to colonial narratives?". Anyone who walked by was able to come chat with us and add their contribution by writing their opinions on the banners.

In line with the second banner prompt, we also welcomed a speaker to organize a lecture. Chris de Ploeg broadened our knowledge on topics such as (neo-) colonialism, climate racism, and ecological breakdown. It was especially interesiting to gain a depper understanding of the relationship between these, seemingly unrelated, subjects.

Thank you Chris, for sharing your knowledge and experiences with us.

Welcome Borrel for Volunteers

On November 1, we welcomed our newly recruited volunteers for a borrel at CREA, where we had a wonderful time getting to know each other, having some drinks, and mingling. The highlight of the night was a game of "sustainable bingo" :) Kudos to our co-manager Anka for preparing it!
